Founded in 2012, Truffle Trees Direct specialises in inoculating English seed grown saplings with the Autumn truffle spore (Tuber uncinatum). Our expertise in truffle tree farming allows us to grow, inoculate, and maintain a large stock of our trees. By nurturing the saplings over several seasons, we ensure that our clients receive mature, healthy English truffle trees with robust root systems capable of producing truffles. We batch test our trees to confirm they host mycorrhizae, guaranteeing that we provide the very best English grown truffle trees.
Recently, we invested in a large pan mixer, enabling us to create our own essential ingredient compost. To complement this, we have developed an old-fashioned, completely organic sheep trottle fertilizer with a modern twist that benefits our trees.
All processes are handled in-house by Truffle Trees Direct Limited no imported stock here. We have been providing the finest trees for over a decade, and our passion for tree farming has been passed down through generations. We strive to continue our legacy of excellence in the truffle tree farming industry.
With a wealth of experience from successful plantations, we collaborate with the best in the field. Our services include land suitability surveys, design plantation advice, planting, after-sales support, and re-inoculation (annual or bi-annual). We are also equipped for hunting and successful marketing strategies for truffle production.
We are happy to discuss any future plans you may have regarding how to buy truffle trees or enhance your own truffle tree farming efforts.
A New Opportunity for Farm Diversification
Truffle orchards are emerging as a high value option for farmers looking to diversify. With new SFI grants reducing establishment costs and Carbon Credits available for tree planting, truffle cultivation offers a rare blend of long-term profitability and environmental benefit.
Commercial Plantations
Having supplied inoculated trees to various plantings from ½ Hectare to 10 Ha distributed across the UK, one being close to our roots here in the Lincolnshire Wolds—a flagship 1 ha planting for Willoughby Farms—and another of 5 ha for a client in Wiltshire.
We know of a location, where the 1 1/2 Ha commercial planting is 15 years old and producing 10kg/wk.-£3000/wk. (they are hunting 1/2Ha/week) so in theory 1Ha would produce twice this year 15. The trees will not produce for 4-6 years but once they start producing, it's clear how quick the payback is.
Why Choose Truffle Trees Direct?
Based in the Lincolnshire Wolds, Truffle Trees Direct Ltd is the UK’s only nursery growing truffle inoculated trees from native English seed and native English truffle spore. This commitment to local genetics supports biodiversity and avoids the disease risks associated with imported stock — issues that have already caused widespread problems such as Ash Dieback and Phytophthora ramorum.
Strong Market Demand
The UK remains a net importer of truffles, with demand consistently outstripping supply. This creates a long-term, high-value market for growers. To support new orchard owners, Truffle Trees Direct offers:
· Truffle buy‑back scheme for future harvests
· Professional site surveys to assess soil suitability
· Wild truffle detection to identify existing potential
Multiple Revenue Streams
A truffle orchard provides more than one income source:
· Truffle production beginning around year 4–6
· Carbon Credits from tree planting
· Timber value at the end of the orchard’s lifecycle
This combination makes truffle orchards a compelling long-term investment for forward-thinking farmers.
